More than 2,000 people showed up to apply for more than 200 openings at the District’s first Costco outlet, set to open in November.
July 28, 2012 Aaron Linder, 47, uses a towel to stay somewhat dry as he and hundreds of job seekers line up for more than a block at the Ward 5 Costco job fair at Mount Horeb Baptist Church. Some said they came 90 minutes early just to get in line for the 9 a.m. opening. Preregistration for the event was halted due to an overwhelming response by 2,000 job seekers. The turnout of applicants was high; many stood in line for hours in the morning heat to see if their names were on a list or if they could walk in and apply for the limited number of openings. Handouts of water helped quell tempers. Linda Davidson/THE WASHINGTON POST Buy Photo
