D.C. records its third homicide of year

District police said a man was fatally shot early Saturday in the 2700 block of Georgia Avenue NW.

Police said the man, who had been shot multiple times, was found on the sidewalk about 2:30 a.m. and was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. It marked the third homicide in the District this year.

Police identified the victim as Tracy McFadden, 44, of Northeast Washington.

In scattered violence around the city late Friday and early Saturday, there were several non-fatal shootings and a stabbing, D.C. police said.

A man told police that he was riding a bicycle shortly before 10:30 p.m. Friday when someone he knew approached and shot him near 60th and Dix streets NE. The assailant fled in an unknown direction, police said.

Police said a security guard accidentally shot himself about 11:30 p.m. Friday in the second block of Massachusetts Avenue NE.

About 4 a.m. Saturday, a man was stabbed in the stomach, police said. The victim told police that he had “witnessed a large fight” at 14th and U streets NW and then realized he had been stabbed. He flagged down a taxicab and was taken to an area hospital, police said.
