Georgetown University senior Juan Gomez, 22, is graduating magna cum laude and has a job offer from a major Wall Street investment bank. The only thing standing in the way of his American dream: possible deportation to Colombia, a country he hasn’t seen since he was 2 years old.
March 25, 2011 Juan Gomez, a senior at Georgetown University, hangs out with friends in Alexandria during the taping of a documentary about him and immigration in the United States. His parents were detained in 2007 after losing a years-long struggle for political asylum and ignoring multiple orders to leave. They were sent back to Colombia, but after a lobbying campaign by his friends and teachers, Gomez and his brother were allowed to stay for school. Jahi Chikwendiu/The Washington Post Buy Photo
