Earthquake in Ocean City? Residents report hearing boom, feeling ground shake.

Ocean City officials have received dozens of reports from residents who heard a loud boom and felt the ground shake but they could not confirm whether the cause was an earthquake.

“We occasionally will get some type of sonic boom,” Jessica Waters, a spokesperson for the town, said. “I don’t know if that’s what it was. That’s certainly a possibility.”

Waters said the town has been in touch with local and state officials and will update residents as more information becomes available. Officials have received no reports of injuries or damages.

Waters said the tremors did not shake town hall but that e-mails from employees who felt the disturbance outside the building continue to pour in. In one, a woman described seeing the mirrors in her living room shake.
