Fauquier assistant principal suspended without pay

An assistant principal at an elementary school in Fauquier County has been suspended without pay after he was arrested and charged with possessing and distributing child pornography.

Joshua Myers, 29, worked at Greenville Elementary School in Nokesville. He was slated to become the principal of Brumfield Elementary School in July, but after Wednesday’s arrest, Fauquier school officials said he is no longer in line to be promoted.

According to court papers filed in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Myers kept videos of children engaged in sexual contact with adults and other children on his computer. He told an undercover officer in an online chat that he had traveled to California to have sex with a child and had “engaged in sexual contact with children ranging in age from nine years of age to fourteen years of age,” the documents say.

“All of us here were surprised, deeply troubled and disturbed by what happened,” Fauquier Superintendent Jonathan Lewis said about the arrest.

Myers has worked in Fauquier’s public schools since 2004, beginning as a teacher at Thompson Elementary School before becoming assistant principal at Greenville in 2008.

“At this time there is no indication that children enrolled in Fauquier County Public Schools were involved in circumstances that led to Mr. Myers’ arrest,” according to a school district statement Thursday.
