Montgomery County holds school supplies drive in Rockville

Montgomery County families in need of school supplies can pick some up July 15 at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville.

Montgomery County schools is holding its yearly Drive for Supplies event, where more than 16,000 pounds of supplies will be available for nonprofits and families.

“Anybody can come for supplies if they are in need,” Montgomery County schools spokesman Dana Tofig said.

This is the 14th year of the supply drive. The material comes from Montgomery students and staff who gather new and gently used supplies at the end of the school year after cleaning out lockers and desks.

Supplies will be available for pick-up after a 10 a.m. media event at Richard Montgomery High School, 250 Richard Montgomery Dr., Rockville.

This event is different from the school system’s backpack drive, in which the district is collecting money to give needy students backpacks full of school supplies before the start of classes this fall.
