The Prince George’s County Board of Education will hold a two-day retreat on Thursday and Friday at the Westin Hotel in National Harbor.
The sessions will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday.
The retreat will be conducted by Panasonic Foundation, which works with urban school systems to implement reforms. The school system entered into a one-year agreement with Panasonic to help ease its transition from an elected board to a hybrid board with government oversight.
Over the two days, the school board members hope to to come up with a “shared understanding” of the law that changed the governance structure of the school system; build an “effective working relationship” among board members; develop protocols for board operations and communications between board members and the schools chief; and create a plan for the “next level of work.”
The retreat is open to the public, but there will be no public participation.
