Cats chase bat: Assembly Dr., 10500 block, Aug. 27. A couple awoke to find their two cats chasing a bat in their bedroom. The bat was sent for rabies testing. The couple began post-exposure rabies vaccinations, and the cats were given booster shots and quarantined for 45 days.
Dog on the loose: Main St., 10100 block, Aug. 29. Animal control, responding to a report of a rat terrier running in traffic, found the dog and took it to the city’s shelter, where the owner claimed it.
Dog taken to shelter: Fairfax Blvd. and Draper Dr., Aug. 29. A dog in a vehicle that was pulled over was taken to the city’s shelter, where it was claimed the next day.
Dog bites boy: Ford Rd., 10300 block, Aug. 23. A family dog bit a boy. The dog had a current rabies vaccination and was to be monitored at home for 10 days.
Raccoon in dumpster: Spring St., 3100 block. A business reported a raccoon inside a dumpster. Animal control captured the raccoon and released it in nearby woods.
Snake in bathroom: Fairfax Sq., 9800 block, Aug. 26. A man called animal control about a snake in his bathroom. The black rat snake was captured and released in nearby woods.

Dog bites neighbor: Elmar Dr. SE, 100 block, noon Aug. 19. A woman said a neighbor’s dog bit her son. The dog was quarantined.
Dog attack: Moore Ave. SW, 100 block, 5:30 p.m. Aug. 27. A woman said a neighbor’s dog jumped a fence and attacked her dog. The injured dog could not be saved. At a hearing, it will be determined whether the attacking dog should be declared dangerous. Meanwhile, the dog must be confined and secured at all times when it is outside.
Terrier found: Mashie Dr. SE, 300 block, 8:30 p.m. Aug. 27. A female terrier was found in the neighborhood and taken to the animal shelter.
