Groundhog doesn’t make it: Chain Bridge Rd., 4200 block, May 24. An animal control officer picked up a severely injured groundhog that was found underneath a porch and took it to the shelter, where it was euthanized.
Biting the helping hand: Providence Way, 10500 block, May 24. A man was bitten on the hand by his Labrador mix when he tried to put the dog inside his vehicle after it had been hit by a car. The dog survived its injuries and was quarantined at home.
Raccoon dies: Maple St., 10600 block, May 29. Animal control picked up a sick raccoon in the back yard of a residence and took the animal to the shelter, where it was euthanized.
Owner surrenders animals: Warwick Ave., 10700 block, May 30. Responding to a call from police about animals living in unsanitary conditions in a home, animal control officers found a dog, two guinea pigs and two rabbits, and took them to the shelter.
Dog bites: Park St. SE, 100 block, 8 p.m. May 21. A dog bit an employee who was attempting to perform a medical procedure. The dog was quarantined before it was released to an Arlington County owner.
Cat bites: Park St. SE, 100 block, 6 p.m. May 24. A cat bit an employee who was attempting to perform a medical procedure. The cat was released to its owner, who lives in Culpeper County.
Dog owner sought: Kibler Cir. SW, 500 block, 9:13 a.m. May 25. An animal control officer picked up a dog that was running loose and took it to the shelter.
Stray cat rescued: Park Center SE, 100 block, 6:39 p.m. May 25. Animal control picked up an injured cat that was dropped off at the center and took it to the shelter where, it was treated by a veterinarian.
Stray kitten: Cedar Lane SE, 200 block, 4:39 p.m. May 27. An animal control officer picked up a kitten that was found behind an office and took it to the shelter.
