FAIRFAX CITY

The following incidents were reported by the animal control section of the Fairfax City Police Department. For information, call 703-385-7924 or go to www.fairfaxva.gov and click on “Animal Control” on the department’s main page.

Freedom is fleeting: Stratford Ave. and Jean St., Aug. 20. A hound mix was found loose and was taken to the shelter. The dog’s owner released custody to the shelter because it frequently escaped.

Dog held as stray: Warwick Ave. and Warwick Cir., Aug. 18. A terrier mix was found loose and taken to the shelter.

Not in the mood for a trim: Fairfax Blvd., 9800 block, Aug. 14. An 18-year-old cat bit an animal hospital employee while having its nails trimmed. The cat was quarantined.

Wrong bat cave: Ardmore Pl., 4200 block, Aug. 17. An officer captured a bat inside a residence and released it outdoors.

Wrong bat headquarters: Main St., 10500 block, Aug. 18. An officer captured a bat in an office and released it outdoors.

Warning was issued: North St., 10300 block, Aug. 18. Responding to a report of a dog inside a vehicle in a parking garage, an officer found that a 3-month-old Labrador mix had been removed by its owners.

Vienna

The following incidents were reported by the Vienna Police Department. For information, call 703-255-6396.

Lent a yelping hand: Creek Crossing Rd. NE, 500 block, noon Aug. 9. An employee was bitten while attempting to treat a Himalayan cat.

Waiting to be claimed: Nutley St. SW, 300 block, 6:35 a.m. Aug. 15. An officer picked up a yellow Lab that was seen wandering in a neighborhood and took it to the shelter.

Dog bitten and treated: Marshall Rd. SW, 600 block, 4:30 p.m. Aug. 15. A woman was walking her dog when a neighbor’s dog broke free from its chain and attacked her dog.

Dog dies after attack: Thelma Cir. SW, 600 block, 4:36 p.m. Aug. 15. Two dogs, a Husky and what was possibly a German shepherd, attacked a dog in a back yard. A caretaker scared the attacking dogs away by screaming. The injured dog was taken to a hospital, where it died from its injuries.

Owners settle dog fight: Courthouse Rd. SW, 700 block, 6:50 p.m. Aug. 16. A man was bitten on the ankle by a dog in a dog park when his dog got involved in a fight.

Turncoat cat: Terrace Ct. SE, 200 block, 7:30 a.m. Aug. 17. A woman reported that her cat bit her..

Trap catches bigger predator: Valley Dr. SE, 600 block, 8 a.m. Aug. 17. An officer picked up a black snake that was stuck to a mouse glue trap and took it to the shelter.

Fox dies: Ayr Hill Ave. NE, 400 block, 6:25 p.m. Aug. 20. An officer removed a fox whose head was trapped between two fence posts. The fox was severely injured.
