Few claiming $3 rebates after buying Metro SmarTrip cards
By Associated Press,
WASHINGTON — Officials with Washington’s Metro transit system say few people are claiming $3 rebates being offered to those who buy SmarTrip cards.
Since Metro started offering the incentive in September, four out of five haven’t claimed the rebate.
The Washington Post reports (http://wapo.st/XwxOlZ) that Metro officials say one possibility is that most riders already have SmarTrip cards and recent purchases may be by those who rarely use the system or are visiting the area. Another is that riders may be forgetting to claim the rebate or are not aware of it.
To get the rebate, the card has to be registered online and the rebate is added five days after it is used. However, it has to be claimed within 30 days at a station used in the past 20 days.
