February 22, 2014

Five people, including a District firefighter, were hurt Saturday morning in a house fire in the 2600 block of 29th Street SE, a fire department spokesman said. One of the victims, who apparently had been trapped inside the house, suffered life-threatening injuries. The firefighter’s injuries were “minor,” the spokesman said.

No other details were available yet about the nature of the injuries or the ages and genders of the victims, he said.

The house fire was reported at about 6:30 a.m. People were trapped and had to be rescued, according to a tweet from Local 36 of the firefighters union. The fire was brought under control within about 45 minutes, the department spokesman said.
