Gun may land shopkeeper back in prison
When he got out of prison in 2007, Malcolm Hines intended never to go back. He opened a shoe store on a crime-ridden Southeast D.C. street and thrived. But a gun in the store got him in trouble again.

Sandra Seegars, a member of the Advisory Neighborhood Commission for 8E who is running for the D.C. Council, talks with Congress Heights resident Raymond Ballard in front of City Beats, the Southeast shoe store owned by Malcolm Hines. Hines's wife was held a gunpoint and the store was robbed Sunday night. Hines is in jail awaiting sentencing for having a firearm in the store; as a twice-convicted felon, federal law forbids him from having one.
