Traffic was shut down, and then gradually reopened, on I-295 in Southeast Washington after a multi-vehicle crash Thursday evening that involved Prince Georges County police, D.C. police said.

The accident happened near Pennsylvania Avenue about 6:15 p.m., said Officer Paul Metcalf, a D.C. police spokesman. It was not known whether anyone was injured.

Prince George’s County police were at the scene and took one person into custody, Metcalf said. It was not clear why county police were in the District.
