Two other men were shot in Southeast Washington about 4:30 a.m., and one died. Derrick Scott, 30, of Capitol Heights was found fatally wounded in the 300 block of Parkland Place, police said. A second man was found critically wounded around the corner in the 3000 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.
Saturday night at about 10 p.m., four people were wounded on the 2600 block of Stanton Road SE.
The most seriously wounded victim was hit in the back. A second victim was hit in a hip, and the two others in the feet.
At least one was in serious or critical condition, police said.
In an earlier incident, a woman was shot in the foot by a man in the 900 block of Southern Avenue SE, causing injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Another shooting occurred in the 600 block of Montello Avenue NE, where two attackers shot a Southeast man in the leg. He was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
In the Columbia Heights slaying, there was no ShotSpotter activity reported in the area — a usually reliable technology that can pinpoint a gunshot’s location, said Graham, who said he has been in touch with police about the matter. No witnesses have come forward.
Sanchez lived in a DYRS group home, Graham said. He had been placed there recently, Graham said, and had a pass to leave it.
“We know that he was where he was supposed to be,” Graham said. He called the lack of information “puzzling.”
“There are a lot of unanswered questions here,” he said.
Police have questioned the driver who took Sanchez to the hospital, Graham said.
