Man charged inGaithersburg stabbing

A 24-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in a stabbing Friday in Gaithersburg that detectives believe was sparked by an argument, Montgomery County police said Saturday.

Pavel S. Ivanov, of North Potomac, is accused of stabbing 22-year-old Bryan Robert Hall multiple times in a parking lot in the 900 block of Curry Ford Lane. Ivanov and Hall had agreed to meet after Hall had texted a girl Ivanov was seeing, and that meeting escalated into an argument, said Capt. Paul Starks of the Montgomery County Police Department.

Officers were called to the scene about 2:30 a.m. Friday, police said. Hall, of Gaithersburg, was taken to a local trauma center, where he died of his wounds.

Officers arrested Ivanov later Friday morning.

Ivanov was being held without bond Saturday. The case is under investigation.

Woman found slainin Alexandria

A woman in her 40s was found dead in her home Friday in what police say is the city of Alexandria’s third homicide of 2014.

The victim, who has not been identified by police, lived in the 5600 block of Derby Court. The cause of death was not immediately apparent, but the case was ruled a homicide after an autopsy Saturday morning, according to Crystal Nosal, a spokeswoman for the Alexandria police department

Earlier in the year, 59-year-old music teacher Ruthanne Lodato was shot in her home in a still-unsolved murder that has been linked to two other killings in the quiet city. Police have said that Charles Severance, a former Alexandria resident who has not been charged, is a focus of the investigation into those three crimes.

Last month, Julio Caesar Urrutia-Erazo, 27, was killed in Alexandria after an argument between two groups of people.
