Loudoun County animal watch

Dog takes off: Cockpit Ct., Sterling, Jan. 26. A dog walked through an airport entrance and into the lobby. An animal control officer impounded the dog and took it to the animal shelter, where it was reclaimed by its owner.
Dogs get into chicken coop: Piggott Bottom Rd., Hamilton, Jan. 27. Two stray dogs were found inside a chicken coop, along with a dead chicken. An animal control officer returned the dogs to their owners and issued warnings.
Dog vs. fox: Riders Success Lane, Leesburg, Jan. 31. A dog was reported to have killed a fox. The fox tested negative for rabies, and the dog was current with its rabies vaccine.
Horses head for the hills: Evergreen Mills Rd., Leesburg, Jan. 31. Horses were reported to be stranded by rising floodwaters. An animal control officer found that the horses were surrounded by water but had moved to higher ground, on a hill. The horses were not in danger and had sufficient food and water until the floodwaters receded.
Raccoon parks itself in garage: Boxford Terr., Ashburn, Jan. 31. A raccoon was reported to have spent a night in a garage. An animal control officer found the raccoon to be healthy, and so it was returned to the wild.
