Loudoun County residents can drop off their Christmas trees for recycling at five locations from Wednesday through Jan. 17.
Before recycling, residents must remove all ornaments, lights, tinsel, wire and the stand. If transporting the tree in a bag, discard the bag before recycling the tree or setting it out for pickup.
The collection sites are:
→Loudoun County Landfill Recycling Center, 21101 Evergreen Mills Rd., Leesburg. Open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
→Game Protective Association, 16 S. Berlin Pike, Lovettsville. Open daily.
→Franklin Park, 17501 Franklin Park Dr., Purcellville. Open daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
→South Riding Town Hall, 43055 Center St. Open daily.
→Claude Moore Park, 21544 Old Vestal’s Gap Rd., Sterling. Open daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Christmas tree recycling program is only for residents. Christmas tree vendors and others with multiple trees should contact the county Solid Waste Management Division at 703-777-0187 for recycling options.
Residents who receive curbside yard waste recycling service should contact their homeowners association, town office or recycling service provider to ask about Christmas tree pickup dates.
Volunteer Loudoun is offering two opportunities for Volunteer Management Training series workshops next year.
A winter workshop will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 2, March 2 and April 6; fall training will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 16, 24 and 30
The training, intended for anyone who supervises or manages volunteers, will be at the Loudoun County Department of Parks Recreation and Community Services in Leesburg.
The series covers how to plan and evaluate a volunteer program and how to recruit, place, train and supervise volunteers. The cost is $200, with a discount for additional enrollees from the same organization.

Leesburg is seeking volunteers to serve on boards and commissions that provide assistance and advice to the Leesburg Town Council on a variety of subjects.
The Town Council will make appointments Jan. 8 to fill vacancies on the following boards and commissions:
→Board of Architectural Review.
→Economic Development Commission.
→Parks and Recreation Commission.
→Technology and Communications Commission.
→Utility Rate Advisory Committee.
