A suspect was arrested Friday in the death of a 4-year-old girl who was was fatally injured this week in a fire in Southeast Washington, D.C. police said.
Jerome Calvary Lewis, 46, one of those who escaped the house fire Sunday in the 2600 block of 33rd Street SE, was charged in a warrant with second-degree murder in the death of Samauri Jenkins, police said.

Victim shot along Bladensburg Road and was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
A spokesman said it demanded Rick Curl’s resignation and notified the state attorney general’s office.
The suspect is the son of a former aide to President George W. Bush and police say he knew the victim.
Lewis was taken into custody Sunday on charges of threats and simple assault related to an incident after the fire, police said at the time. No record could be immediately found to indicate that the charges have been pursued.
The girl’s death on Tuesday was found by an autopsy to be a result of the fire, and it was ruled a homicide on Friday, police said. Police said the cause of the fire remained under investigation.
A neighbor said the girl had stayed at the house with relatives who regularly took her to preschool.
