Man attacked with baseball bat in Glen Burnie, in serious condition

A 40-year-old man is in serious condition after being struck in the head with a baseball bat and robbed Wednesday night in Glen Burnie, according to the Anne Arundel Police Department.

The man reported that he was walking on the unit block of Virginia Avenue around 8:45 p.m. and passed a group of people when he was attacked with the bat, authorities said in a news release. His wallet and cellphones were stolen.

Police arrested William Lee Haynes, 35, of Glen Burnie and charged him with attempted first and second degree murder, first and second degree assault, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, robbery, armed robbery and two counts of theft, according to the release.

The victim was transported to the University of Maryland Medical Center’s Shock Trauma Center in serious condition. The injuries were not considered life-threatening, according to the release.

The investigation is ongoing.
