After being dropped off about 4:30 p.m., the man with the bag went behind the house, and then entered, according to the sheriff’s office.

When officers arrived, they said, they found the front door locked but saw someone inside.

After the man was taken into custody, the sheriff’s office said, they found that the floor had been damaged by water. They said they found the bag, which was filled with copper pipes that had apparently just been cut.

Copper is a target for thieves, and officials said the intruder was charged with theft and burglary.
