Police said they believe Erick Amilicar Mendez-Orellana had ties to the 18th Street gang, though they are still searching for suspects his slaying. William Alexander, a Prince George’s County police spokesman, said that detectives are probing whether Mendez-Orellana’s ties to the group might have prompted the shooting.

The incident occurred about 8:30 p.m., as Mendez-Orellana was walking to his home in the 4900 block of Marlboro Pike, police said. Alexander said that witnesses told detectives they saw two possible suspects leaving the scene of the incident on foot.
