A man threatening to hurt himself near the White House caused street closures for almost three hours Saturday morning, according to the Secret Service.
Pennsylvania Avenue NW between 15th and 19th streets NW were shut down, as was 17th Street NW between F and H streets NW, Secret Service spokesman Agent Brian Leary said.
The streets reopened around 11:45 a.m., Leary said.
The man, whose name was not released, was transported by the Metropolitan Police Department to a local hospital without any injuries. The man’s luggage was cleared.
The man did not have any weapons, a federal official said, and did not have an intention of doing anything at the White House.
