An Orange Line Metro train struck and killed a man who was walking on the tracks outside the East Falls Church stop early Sunday, Metro officials said.
Caroline Lukas, a Metro spokeswoman, said the man was on the tracks between the East Falls Church and Ballston Metro stops, just outside the East Falls Church stop. The man was hit shortly before 2 a.m. by an inbound train on its way to Ballston, Lukas said.
Eight passengers on the train — one of the last trains of the night — were transferred to another train. Metro experienced delays in both directions as trains between East Falls Church and Ballston were single-tracking as officials investigated. Normal service resumed Sunday morning, Lukas said.
Metro officials are trying to determine why the man was on the tracks. They have not yet released the man’s name or age.
