Man who died in motorcycle crash identified

A motorcyclist who died Wednesday night in a crash in Southeast Washington has been identified as a 45-year-old man from Maryland, according to D.C. police.

Michael Swann of Forestville was pronounced dead at an area hospital shortly after the accident, which occurred about 7:45 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-295, according to police.

Police said Swann was driving a 1997 Honda motorcycle when he lost control near Suitland Parkway and was struck by a 2006 Hummer. The accident is being investigated by the police department’s major crash unit.

Authorities shut down the northbound lanes of the highway for about two hours Wednesday night.
