Masked robbers assault pair in Alexandria

Four masked men assaulted and attempted to rob a man and a woman in the Alexandria section of Fairfax County on Wednesday night, police said.

The 23-year-old man and 33-year-old woman were walking in the 3300 block of Southgate Drive about 10 p.m. Wednesday when they were approached by the group of men, Fairfax County police said.

One of the assailants grabbed the man and another produced a gun, police said. The other two men grabbed the woman, assaulted her and demanded she turn over her belongings.

The woman screamed and the suspects fled, police said.

The assailants are described as black and between the ages of 16 and 20, police said. One wore a gray polo shirt with khaki shorts and had long dreadlocks pulled up in the back. The suspect who held the gun was very thin and wore a black tank top and jean shorts.
