Montgomery County considers smoking ban in county buildings
By Victor Zapana,
A Montgomery County legislator is proposing a new law that would ban smoking on county property.
Montgomery County Council member Nancy Floreen (D-At Large) will introduce the bill at a council meting Nov. 20 and will hold a news conference on the law Nov. 15. A majority of council members have already expressed support for the law.
“I have unfortunately spent a lot of time over the past year with people who have cancer,” said Floreen, who made public last year that she had breast cancer. “I want to do everything I can to help prevent this awful disease in all of its forms, and this is a good place to start.”
Currently, smoking is banned in restaurants, near playgrounds and in common areas of multi-unit residential buildings in the county.
