Strike may delay trash service in Potomac, Silver Spring and Bethesda

Trash and recycling pickup in parts of Potomac, Silver Spring and Bethesda might be delayed today because of the continuing strike by workers at one of Montgomery County’s collection contractors, officials said this morning.

The county said owners of Potomac Disposal have assured that they have sufficient personnel to make scheduled pickups before the end of the day. Fifty-seven mostly Latino drivers and helpers went on strike Monday after charging that the company threatened immigration enforcement against them as an intimidation tactic in contract negotiations. The company has not commented.
