Rumble with a raccoon: Strathmore Ave., 4700 block, Garrett Park, Aug. 1. A black Labrador mix was placed under house arrest after it fought with and killed a raccoon that tested positive for rabies. During the state-mandated 45-day observation period, the dog’s owner may keep the animal at home and must report any unusual behavior of the dog. The canine was current on its rabies vaccination, and animal services reported that the likelihood of the dog contracting the disease was minimal.
Shady new lounge: Homecrest Cir., 2800 block, Silver Spring, July 31. A resident found a stray dog lying underneath the resident’s car. A Humane Society investigator removed the pointer mix and confirmed that the animal did not appear sick or injured. The canine was taken to the shelter for care until its owner could be located. The dog was claimed by the owner later that day.
