Montgomery County Animal Watch

April 9

These were among the cases received recently by the Montgomery County Animal Services Division. For information, call 240-773-5900. That number provides recorded information on such topics as the new Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center’s hours and location in Derwood, adoption and licensing procedures, lost and found and field services.

Cats feared abandoned: Capehart Dr., 19000 block, Montgomery Village, March 29. A resident contacted animal services to report that several cats had possibly been abandoned by their owner. An officer who went to the address and did not get a response posted a notice on the door for the cats’ owner to contact animal services. The cats’ owner said they were temporarily living with and providing care for an ailing relative but returning home daily to look after the animals. The officer verified the cats were in good condition at the home.

Toy poodle perpetually vigilant: Smoketree Rd., 11710 block, Potomac, March 27. A home security company worker was bit on the leg by a dog while in a client’s home. The bite was minor, but the toy poodle mix was placed under a standard 10-day home quarantine. The dog was current on its rabies vaccination.

PAW needs volunteers: The Partnership for Animal Welfare, a nonprofit group of volunteers, facilitates the rescue and adoption of homeless domestic animals, mainly dogs and cats, and places them in loving and stable homes. PAW needs volunteers to foster dogs and cats, provide transportation to vet appointments and handle animals at adoption shows.
