Rainy day trouble: 11300 block, Hounds Way, Rockville, July 14. Animal services was notified that two dogs, a mastiff and an Australian shepherd, were in a back yard without shelter from the rain. At first, no one was home when an animal services officer visited the property. After the dog owner’s son arrived, the officer told him to take the dogs inside. Once the dog owner was home, the officer returned to discuss shelter requirements and to issue a $500 fine for leaving the animals outside in the rain.

Volunteers needed: The Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind needs volunteers for the puppy training program to help raise and train a 12- to 18-month-old puppy to become a guide dog for the blind or a service dog for a veteran. 866-282-8046, www.guidedog.org or harringtonhoeft@hotmail.com.
