New Germantown hospital gets Montgomery planning approval
By Lena H. Sun,
The Montgomery County planning board gave unanimous approval Thursday to Holy Cross Hospital’s plans to build a new hospital in Germantown. Hospital officials said they will move ahead to obtain local permits to begin construction later this year on a six-story, 93-bed hospital on the Germantown campus of Montgomery College.
The new facility, the first new hospital in the county in more than 30 years, is expected to open in mid-2014. It will be part of the new Montgomery College Life Sciences Center, and is the first hospital-and-community college project in the country, according to planning board spokeswoman Valerie Berton. The vote was 4 to 0, with one member absent.
Planning board officials asked that local roads have enough signs for residents to find the hospital, Berton said.
