Albert Shayne, trash company executive

Albert Shayne, a retired co-owner of Reliable Trash Service, died July 22 at a nursing facility in Delray Beach, Fla. He was 97.

He had complications from pneumonia, said his son-in-law David Naftaly.

With two trucks, Mr. Shayne began a trash-hauling business in Washington during the 1940s. He later expanded the business and marketed a line of innovative trash compactors and containers.

He eventually sold those businesses and started another trash-hauling company, Reliable Trash Service. He and his partner, Naftaly, sold the Reliable Trash Service business in 1998 to Waste Industries of Raleigh, N.C., and retired. A longtime Chevy Chase resident, he moved to the Florida in 2000.

Albert Scheinormon was born in Schenectady, N.Y., and moved to the Washington area in the late 1920s. He served in the Army during World War II. He changed his last name to Shayne after his military service.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Florence Carp Shayne of Delray Beach; three children, Ruth Naftaly of Columbia, Harriet Kulbersh of Savannah, Ga., and Edward Shayne of Gaithersburg; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
