Alec F. Armbrister, a drummer, dog walker and pet sitter, was found dead Jan. 26 at his apartment in Washington. He was 49.

The cause of death is undetermined, pending results of an autopsy by the D.C. medical examiner’s office.

Alec Farrington Armbrister was born in New Rochelle, N.Y., and grew up in Chevy Chase. He graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in 1983.

From 1985 to the early 2000s, Mr. Armbrister was a bicycle courier in the District and was the subject of an extensive article in The Washington Post Magazine in 1992. In recent years, he was a dog walker in the District’s Mount Pleasant neighborhood. He also played drums with a number of local punk bands.

Survivors include his mother, DuBos Armbrister of Easton, Md.; his stepmother, Judith C. Armbrister of Chevy Chase; and a brother, Robertson Armbrister of Germantown, Md.
