Alice “Pat” Padgett, who spent about 15 years as an office manager for the General Services Administration before retiring in the early 1980s, died Dec. 24 at the Capital Caring hospice in Arlington County. She was 87.

The cause was complications from an esophageal tear, her son Gary Padgett said.

Alice Ethelene Hill was born in Monticello, Miss., and settled in the Washington area in 1945. She was an Arlington resident.

She taught ballroom dancing decades ago and also was a quilter and poet.

Her husband of 40 years, Francis C. Padgett, died in 1984. Survivors include four children, Sharon Hollar of Beaufort, N.C., Victor Padgett of Ashburn, Va., Jennifer Blair of Springfield, Va., and Gary Padgett of Arlington; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
