Ann Houle, who was a cashier for Giant Food for 20 years, died Feb. 6 at her home in Oxon Hill, Md. She was 81.

She had complications from diabetes, her daughter Mary Olien said.

Mrs. Houle began working for Giant in 1967 at a store in Oxon Hill. She worked at a branch of the store in Waldorf, Md., from 1977 until her retirement in 1987.

Rena Ann Schwarzmann was born in Washington and was a 1950 graduate of Anacostia High School.

She was a past member of the Lions Club and made stained-glass lamps as a hobby.

Her husband of 24 years, Wilfred J. “Willie” Houle, died in 1976. Survivors include six children, Martha Stitt of North Beach, Md., Mary Olien of Winchester, Va., Shelly Mascaro of Cutler Bay, Fla., Teresa Mackey of Los Angeles, Jim Houle of Churchton, Md., and Sharon Draher of Waldorf; a brother; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
