Art Donner, environmental specialist

Art Donner, 65, an environmental specialist who retired in 2009 after 33 years with the Environmental Protection Agency, died Aug. 3 at Inova Fairfax Hospital.

He had complications from a stroke after surgery, said his wife, Goldye Perrin Donner. He was a Springfield resident.

Arthur Donner was born in Munich. He immigrated to the United States in 1950 and became a U.S. citizen as a child.

He was a 1969 chemistry graduate of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and received a master’s degree in urban and public affairs in 1973 from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh before settling in Washington.

At the EPA, he specialized in matters related to technology and office productivity.

He did volunteer work through Habitat for Humanity and, in Israel, through the Jewish Federation.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Goldye Perrin Donner of Springfield; two children, Megan Dunn and Ian Donner, both of Reston; his mother, Stefanie Hellering of Beachwood, Ohio; a sister; and two grandchildren.
