Arthur Fishman, veterinarian
Arthur Fishman, 90, a veterinarian who started one of the first animal hospitals in Fairfax County, died Sept. 11 at Inova Fairfax Hospital. He had congestive heart failure.
The death was confirmed by a daughter, Kathy London.
Dr. Fishman, a Falls Church resident, founded Fairfax Animal Hospital and Boarding Kennel at Baileys Crossroads in 1945. He served as president and chief executive until retiring in 1988.
Arthur Fishman was a New York City native and a 1942 graduate of Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa. He was a 1945 graduate of what is now Brandeis University’s veterinary medicine school in Massachusetts.
His memberships included the Lions Club of Virginia.
His wife, Joan Seide Fishman, whom he married in 1944, died in 1982. Their son, Alan Fishman, died in 1999.
Survivors include two daughters, Margie Ufberg of Kingston, Pa., and Kathy London of Fairfax Station; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
