November 29, 2013

Donna Brinitzer, a math specialist who taught at Fairfax County’s Fort Hunt Elementary School for nearly four decades, died Oct. 30 at her home in the Alexandria section of the county. She was 82.

The cause was a heart attack, said her son Scott R. Brinitzer.

Mrs. Brinitzer joined Fort Hunt Elementary in 1975. She officially retired in 2011, her son said, but remained involved with the school as a volunteer educator until last year.

Donna Louise Roberts was a native of Fort Wayne, Ind., and a 1954 education graduate of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind. She taught in U.S. armed services schools in Germany in the 1960s.

She had lived for nearly 50 years in the Stratford Landing neighborhood and belonged to organizations including the Stratford Woman’s Club, the Stratford Recreation Association and the Stratford Landing Citizens Association.

Her husband of 42 years, Peter H. Brinitzer, died in 2004. Survivors include two sons, Scott R. Brinitzer of Arlington and John D. Brinitzer of Paris, and a grandson.
