Garry H. Woodward, 54, a retired Navy personnelman first class who later became a human resources specialist for civilian organizations, died Feb. 4 at Capital Hospice in Arlington County.
He died of cancer, said his wife, Susan Woodward.

He died of cancer, said his wife, Susan Woodward.
Mr. Woodward, an Arlington resident, joined the Navy in 1977 and served on active duty until 1993. He was a human resources specialist with the American Association of State Colleges from 1993 to 1997 and the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society from 1997 until 2004.
Garry Hanck Woodward was born in Washington and graduated from Arlington’s Washington-Lee High School in 1975. He attended Flagler College in Florida.
His first marriage, to Guadalupe Galamgam, ended in divorce.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Berkeley Woodward of Arlington, whom he married last year; three children from his first marriage, Janis Woodward, Cristina Woodward and Jimi Woodward, all of Woodbridge; four stepchildren, Romeo Galamgam of San Diego and Ashley Needham, Zach Needham and James Needham, all of Arlington; and a brother, Lawrence “Chip” Woodward of Arlington.
