George E. Benjamin, 91, a retired FBI officer who specialized in surveillance and counterintelligence, died Dec. 25 at the home of a granddaughter in Las Vegas. He had heart ailments.
A brother, Charles Benjamin, confirmed the death.
Mr. Benjamin joined the FBI in Washington in 1951 and served early in his career in Minneapolis and Kansas City. He returned to the Washington office in 1954 and served here until retiring in 1976.
George Edgar Benjamin was born in Loudoun County and graduated from high school in Harpers Ferry, W.Va. He served in the Navy in the Pacific during World War II and graduated in 1949 from what is now Shepherd University in West Virginia.
In 2007 he moved from Silver Spring to Las Vegas to live with his daughter.
His marriage to the former Leone Cason ended in divorce. Survivors include a daughter, Linda Moretti of Las Vegas; a brother, Charles W. Benjamin of Gaithersburg; a sister, Virginia Staubs of Silver Spring; and three grandchildren.
