George Wang, GWU associate professor

George Wang, 85, an associate professor at George Washington University who taught Chinese language classes from 1965 to 2006, died Jan. 24 at Arden Courts assisted living in Silver Spring. He had Alzheimer’s disease.

A brother, John Wang, confirmed the death.

Mr. Wang, a longtime Silver Spring resident, taught Chinese language classes at Yale University before joining the GWU faculty. More than 30 of his papers were published in professional journals.

George Ching Yuan Wang was a native of Shenyang, China, and a 1950 graduate of National Taiwan Normal University. He received a master’s degree in 1955 from Tokyo University of Education, now University of Tsukuba.

He was a member of the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association in Washington.

Survivors include a brother, John Wang of Beltsville; and a sister, Mary Hsieh of Southport, Conn.
