J. Michael Yarborough, 58, a tax specialist who worked for the Maryland General Assembly’s Department of Legislative Services for 25 years, died April 15 at his home in Chevy Chase.
He had glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer, said his wife, Kathleen M. Sanzo.
Mr. Yarborough worked for the General Assembly from 1986 to 2012, primarily on the drafting of tax legislation. He previously was an associate with the law firm of Lyon and McManus in Washington.
John Michael Yarborough was born in Maryville, Tenn. He received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Duke University in 1978, a law degree from Vanderbilt University in 1982 and a master of laws degree in taxation from Georgetown University in 1990.
He coached youth softball and soccer in Montgomery County, and he volunteered with the Girls Scouts and the Cub Scouts.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Kathleen M. Sanzo of Chevy Chase; three children, Allison Yarborough, Caroline Yarborough and Patrick Yarborough, all of Chevy Chase; two sisters; and a brother.
