Janet Kunkle Bell, 87, a children’s librarian who worked for Montgomery County public libraries for more than 20 years, died Jan. 26 at the Asbury Methodist Village retirement community in Gaithersburg.
She had Alzheimer’s disease, said her daughter, Sherri R. Neale.
Mrs. Bell retired in the 1980s from Rockville Memorial Library. She had worked previously at libraries in Bethesda, Olney and Damascus. She was a longtime Montgomery resident.
Janet Gertrude Kunkle was born in Luxor, Pa., and settled in the Washington area in the 1950s. She received a bachelor’s degree in library science from the University of Maryland in 1971.
Her marriage to James Z. Bell ended in divorce. Their son Clifford Bell died in 2006.
Survivors include three children, Daniel E. Bell of Rockville, Sherri R. Neale of Alexandria and Jeffrey W. Bell of Minneapolis; and a grandson.
