Joan Denton, 77, a member of Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church in Annandale, where she taught Sunday school, died Jan. 27 at Capital Hospice in Arlington County. She had cancer.
The death was confirmed by her daughter, Theresa Decker.

The death was confirmed by her daughter, Theresa Decker.
Mrs. Denton was a junior high school teacher in New York state and Florida early in her career. She married in 1956 and accompanied her husband on his Air Force assignments before settling in the Washington area in 1978. She was a Fairfax County resident.
Joan Ann Chamberlain was a native of Ithaca, N.Y., and a 1955 graduate of what is now the University at Albany in New York. In 1971, she received a master’s degree in guidance and counseling from what is now the University of Central Oklahoma.
Survivors include her husband, retired Lt. Col. Frank R. Denton Jr. of Fairfax County; four children, F. Russell Denton of Lawrenceville, Ga., Theresa Decker of Skokie, Ill., Lisa Livingston of Albuquerque and David Denton of Fairfax County; a brother; three sisters; and 13 grandchildren.
