John Leslie, Navy veteran

John Leslie, 72, a Navy chief petty officer who in retirement worked 20 years for McLean-based Science Applications International, died of pancreatic cancer June 14 at home in Springfield. HIs death was confirmed by his daughter Lisa Leslie.

Chief Leslie served 28 years in the Navy before retiring in 1986 as an intelligence specialist. His military career included sea duty and shore assignments in Hawaii, San Diego and Washington.

He settled in the Washington area on retirement and was a government contracting specialist with SAIC.

John Edmon Leslie was born in Marshalltown, Iowa.

His marriage to Kathleen Neiger Leslie ended in divorce. His second wife, Judith MacCormack Leslie, whom he married in 1977, died in 2003.

Survivors include three children of his first wife, Elizabeth “Lisa” Leslie of Beaverton, Ore.; Donald Leslie of Aloha, Ore.; Charlotte Leslie Kurfurst of Vancouver, Wash.; four stepchildren, Jeanine Flowers of Virginia Beach, Sherri Manning of Springfield, Jennifer Donohue of Woodbridge and John Donohue of Islip, N.Y.; and eight grandchildren.
