John Morris, nonprofit employee, dies at 29

John Morris, who worked from 2006 to 2007 at Every Citizen Has Opportunities, a nonprofit group in Leesburg that works with the disabled, died Aug. 6 at the Woodbine Rehabilitation and Healthcare center in Alexandria. He was 29.

The cause was cardiac failure, said his stepmother, Angela Morris. He had lived at the Woodbine center since suffering a stroke in 2007. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor when he was 5 and later had complications such as seizures.

John Thomas Morris was born in Manassas and raised in Colonial Beach, Va. In 2000, he participated in the track events of Special Olympics held in Northumberland County, on Virginia’s Northern Neck. He was a 2006 graduate Potomac Falls High School.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Kathryn and Ronald Miles of Colonial Beach; his father and stepmother, Timothy and Angela Morris of Sterling; a sister, Lindsay McMahan of Colonial Beach; and a brother, Patrick Morris of Colonial Beach.
