Kevin D. Bowden, 28, who spent six years as a Prince George’s County Police Department police officer first class, died Oct. 18 at Southern Maryland Hospital Center in Clinton from injuries sustained in a car accident that day. He was a Clinton resident.

According to the Prince George’s County police, Officer Bowden was off duty in his patrol cruiser when the driver of a sport-utility vehicle collided with him at the intersection of Branch Avenue and Surratts Road in Clinton.

The other driver tried to cross several lanes of traffic and hit the officer’s police cruiser, which then struck a utility pole. The driver in the other car was treated at a hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening.

Kevin Donnell Bowden was born in Washington and raised in Clinton, where he was a 2002 graduate of Surrattsville High School. Afterward, he was a mechanic for a contractor that worked on Metropolitan Police vehicles.

Survivors include three children from relationships, DeAndre Bowden of Clinton, Mahogany Carey of Temple Hills and Joshua Shaw of Germantown; his parents, Roy E. Bowden and Lendora O. Bowden of Clinton; a sister, LaSharn Bowden of Washington; two brothers, Dwayne Bowden of Greeneville, Tenn., and Roy D. Bowden of Clinton; and a maternal grandmother, Elizabeth E. Lawrence of Washington.
