Ling Lin, software engineer

Ling Lin, 47, a software engineer who worked in the Washington area for more than two decades, died Dec. 10 at her home in Potomac.

She had cancer, said her husband, Jack Maa.

Ms. Lin was employed by the mortgage financier Freddie Mac for about a dozen years, until 2010. She had previous worked for firms that included the General Sciences Corp.

Ling Lin was born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

She received a bachelor’s degree from Tamkang University in Taipei in 1988 and a master’s degree from Mississippi State University in 1990, both in statistics. She then settled in the Washington area. She became a U.S. citizen in 1998.

She belonged to the Rho Psi Society, a fraternal group.

Survivors include her husband of 22 years, Der-zy Jack Maa of Potomac; two children, Jason Maa and Julia Maa, both of Potomac; her mother, Neau Chiao Lin of Kaohsiung; her father, Chia Chu Lin of Kaohsiung; and a brother, Jimmy Lin of McLean.
