Nina Gelin-Meier, art student

Nina Gelin-Meier, 77, an amateur artist who studied at the Corcoran School of Art, the McLean Center of the Arts and the art departments at several campuses of Northern Virginia Community College, died Aug. 26 at her home in McLean.

She had lung cancer and complications from a stroke, said her husband, Verne L. Meier.

Nina Gelin was born in Belgrade and studied art in Vienna before emigrating to the United States.

She settled in the Washington area in 1964 and became a U.S. citizen.

In the Washington area, she was an unofficial adviser and mentor to other art students.

She played golf at the International Country Club in Fairfax County. She was a member of St. Luke Orthodox Church in McLean and Russian Orthodox Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Washington.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Verne L. Meier of McLean.
